Sister Borgia Spelich, OSB, 1907-1990

Sister Borgia Anna Spelich, OSB, 83, of the St. Mary Priory, Nauvoo, Ill., died at 7:40 p.m. Friday, June 29, 1990, at the Priory, where she had resided for 15 years.

Born June 26, 1907, in LaSalle, Ill., she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Schultz Spelich.

She entered religious life June 14, 1925, and made her final profession Jan. 3, 1930.  She celebrated 60 years of religious life in 1986.  She had taught grade school at St. Peter and Paul in Nauvoo; St. Boniface, In Peoria, Ill.; St. John’s in Clinton, Ill.; Immaculate Conception in Monmouth, Ill.; St. Mary’s in Moline; St. Mary’s in Wenona, Ill.; St. Joseph in Ivesdale, Ill.; and St. Thomas More in Munster, Ind.

Surviving are her Benedictine sisters; one brother, Joseph Spelich; five sisters, Mrs. Marie (Charles) Subowsky, Mrs. Betty (Emerson) Ohligschlager, Mrs. Edith (William) Seibert, Mrs. Agnes (Frank) Tuerczyn, and Mrs. Dorothy (Edward) Makevic; and several nieces and nephews.

The wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. today at the St. Mary Priory, Nauvoo, Ill.

A memorial mass for Sr. Spelich will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Mary Priory Chapel with the Revs. John Wissing and Paul Showalter officiating.  Burial will be in St. Peter and Pau
